Writing the previous blog post about the houseboat “Heather” prompted me to go and revisit this wonderful film from the Pathe archives.
Filmed in 1960, this was the “Flat-a-Float” which was designed by Donald Hagenbach who had purchased the Windboats yard from Graham Bunn in 1945. Flat-a-Floats appeared as holiday houseboats at various locations around the Broads …… the actress and singer Julie Andrews was even rumoured to have honeymooned on one at Wayford Bridge! I’m not quite sure how I’d feel about sticking an outboard on the back and using one like a motor cruiser as seen in this film! The woman who featured in the clip was apparently Donald Hagenbach’s daughter Penny. It’s a great little period piece and was filmed on the River Bure around Wroxham.
